The Bombshell at Work

Well it finally happened, I guess it was inevitable. I got a real job. Gone are the days that I was a lady of leisure, dabbling in writing a novel, lounging in satin pajamas and prowling department stores while my hard working Handsome Prince toiled away supporting my lavish lifestyle.

But on the upside I'm a professional writer now. I work for an online marketing company doing SEO, and although I haven't got a really clear idea of what that is despite the many many training sessions I've attended lately, I just write my articles and profiles for clients and all is well. I find I quite enjoy it. And I've been assigned some rather appropriate articles to write; one on precious gemstones, one on rhinestone tiaras, and one on a luxury multi-million dollar ski club.

It all was quite remarkable really. Getting a job I mean. I was on an extended holiday with the Handsome Prince in Ireland and England when I received a more than usually intriguing email. One of the companies that I had interviewed with months previously and had not offered me a position contacted me asking if I would consider a new copy writing position. I replied that I might consider it, but that I was presently out of the country, and they were kind enough to hold the position for me. I interviewed for the position the day after my return to the blessed United States and was given an offer right then. I happily accepted it. I began work the following day. So here I am, blogging at work in my charming cubicle. A grown up bombshell.

This Bombshell's Goin' Travellin'!

So my life hasn't been as glamourous as it rightfully should be lately--I still don't have my dream job, or any job actually, and obviously haven't posted any marvelous adventures because I haven't had many. HOWEVER, that is about to change! I will very soon be absconding for the UK! For FOUR weeks! With a devilishly handsome man, who yes, happens to be my husband! I know, my life has it's charmed moments.
We will be visiting in Ireland, Northern Ireland, Engalnd, and My Sweet HP has even surprised me with tickets to see Wicked in London. I was, needless to say, delighted.

In the meantime, I have been spending a great deal of time working on my novel. It is taking shape, and seems to be picking up layers I hadn't expected. I did manage to hook up with a writing critique group at the Children's Literature Forum, but I'm not sure how I feel about them. I don't mean to be snooty, but all of the women in the group are grandmothers and fancy writing adventure stories about perfect and well mannered kids who happen to be in the right/wrong place at the right/wrong time to be sucked into a story. Not entirely realistic. Nor are they very in touch with the youth of today. They kept using words in their manuscripts like "grand" and sublime." It came as quite a shock to one rather mad looking would-be writer when I mentioned that very few nine year olds today have grandfathers that fought in WWII. And I think they may be quite scandalized when they find out what the central plot of my novel is (luckily I was prudent enough not to introduce it from the offset). I may need to find a more contemporary group. But, alas, I'll keep attending their meetings until I can find a more suitable one.

Until I return from my travels, I dare say I won't have much news, but I'll venture there with be plenty to write about afterwards.

The Job Hunt Continues

So funny enough, I haven't found the perfect job for me just yet. Well, actually I did, but they offered it to someone else. Fair enough. I can hold out for something better. Or I can get a couple part-time jobs that will be easier to leave when I take off to rainy Ireland in spring. Whichever. I'm just going nuts sitting at home right now with nothing to do but clean the bathroom or do the laundry. I did that already. So I started concentrating more on my novel. I think my opening chapter is getting much better, but I'm not sure what to do with the rest of the story yet. Sigh. how can I become a famous novelist, if I can't figure out what happens in my first novel. this is a serious dilemma. And I refuse to take Carol Lynch williams' advice and just kill off one of the characters when you don't know what to do. I think that's cheating. She doesn't get fabulous reviews anyway. I can do better than that. I think.
But its on my mind so much right now that I wake up in the middle of the night with half formed ideas that seem brilliant at the time. I think "Eurica, I've got it!" Then I remember them later when I'm fully awake and I think "What in the world does that have to do with anything?" No good. So I keep rewriting and revising whatI've already got, hoping for inspiration. and sometimes it comes, bits at a time. I'm not really worried. I was made to do this. I just hope somebody was made to read it.
